Lifelong Fitness - Our Method
We aren’t asking you to sign up for a bootcamp or a fad program.
We are focused on Lifelong Fitness and our method and approach is designed to that end.
Incremental Returns - Compound Interest
Most people are familiar with the concept of incremental improvement or compound interest - that small increases over a very long time period lead to great returns.
Lifelong Fitness training is no different.
If you can commit to a program that delivers incremental health and fitness improvements over a lifetime, then you will be well positioned to live a healthy and functional life - even into your twilight years.
Compare the Pair
Take 2 people:
Lee
Every new year Lee gets off her couch and signs up to the gym and she goes for 1 hour 3 times a week - she doesn’t really understand the machines very well or if her form is correct when doing the exercise, but some training is better than nothing - she starts to feel good
After about 10 weeks Lee gets busy at work and starts going less and less. She can only really manage to get to the gym at odd hours and when other people are on the machines she wants to use. She got injured lifting a 20KG plate onto the leg press - she doesn’t really like the environment and her favourite machine has been broken for the last six weeks. She calls it quits with the intention of getting back to it when she is ‘less busy’
She never returns until she gets so unfit and unhealthy that her doctor says she should try the gym
She goes back later and the cycle repeats, but it gets harder for Lee each time as she is getting older and older
Kate
Kate attends Strength By Science for 20 minutes once a week
When she comes in it is so easy for her, as each machine is setup on her settings and the Exercise Scientist is ready to go with her program
Every detail of her workout is overseen and recorded by an Exercise Scientist
She uses 5 compound movement weight machines which are specifically engineered to be safe, guide perfect movement form and allow muscle development across the full range of motion. She does each exercise until she is fatigued and moves to the next one
The Exercise Scientist incrementally increases the weight she can move on a weekly basis as she gets stronger, she increases on average about 0.5KG per week
Kate has been with Strength By Science for 1 year. Her strength gain has been more than a 95% increase since she started, her body proportions are more natural, she looks toned, she no longer hunches over or slouches and is much more flexible. She feels great!
Kate can keep improving her fitness for the rest of her life with this simple program
The Science
The science tells us that with the right supervision and equipment, a Lifelong Fitness program need only be as little as 20 minutes once or twice a week.
It also tells us that over long periods of time, properly supervised and intense weekly resistance training programs tend converge to similar results - whether you are doing 1, 2 or 3 sessions a week. For example, in this study people were assigned strength training programs for either 1x, 2x or 3x a week for 6 months. The researchers found great improvements for all participants, but very little difference between the cohorts at the end of the 6 months. Generally, working out twice a week will give you better results sooner, but if you just want to be headed in the right direction and you are working on a long-term timeframe - once a week, at sufficient intensity, will get most people there over time.
The most important things are proper equipment, supervision, and weekly consistency!
Why not just go to a 24 Hour Gym?
24 hour gyms are great for a very small proportion of people - they are designed for people with a lot of free time.
Most people don’t have several hours a week to go to 24 Hour Fitness Pty Ltd and:
Wait around and watch people sit on the most popular machines scrolling their phone or on tik-tok videos between sets
Lifting weight plates on and off the machines
Try and set-up the old ill designed and often broken equipment
Have loud music blaring in your ears
And almost no one will be able to commit to that type of program for a lifetime.
The business model of most gyms is for you to sign-up and then rarely or never attend - their financial models assume big percentages of people will do this.
We make it easy
We’ve looked at the science and why people fail to achieve consistency in their workouts.
The common themes we identified were:
Don’t have time (our session are 20 mins a week)
Don’t know if their form is correct (we supervise every session 1 to 1)
Don’t know if the machines they are using are good or bad (we use state of the art equipment)
Don’t want to have to setup the machines each time (we setup everything before you arrive)
Don’t want to keep track of their workout while training (we track your data for you)
Want to be able to turn up, workout, and then leave (we book every session with this in mind)
Can’t push themselves when training without a buddy or supervision (we supervise every session 1 to 1)
We designed our method with our MedX style Imagine Strength machines so that you can achieve lifelong fitness in the most efficient and effective way possible.
